SEMPORNA: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained two unnumbered pump boats, with fish bombing tools near Pulau Bait waters, here, at about 2pm on Jan 12. MMEA Semporna Director, Maritime Commander Norrimi Hassan, said a patrolling boat found the boats were moving in suspicious circumstances.
One of the skippers jumped into the sea when approached while the other was detention. MMEA officers also discovered fish-bombing tools and about seven kilogramme of suspected bombed fish from the suspect, who was without documents.
The seizure included two pump boats, bombing tools, shaft and pump engines worth about RM6,210. It was brought to Azumi Camp jetty here for investigation under Fishery Act 1985.
Norrimi said the Semporna MMEA will continue to enhance their patrols and enforcement from time to time to combat crimes at the borders. Members of public can provide information or complaints at 089-782619 or MERS 999.
